What We Have Accomplished

This week we focused on brainstorming and finalizing our project idea. All of us are interested in the interactive sculpture project, so we spent some time exploring Professor Tihanyi’s sculptures and decided that we’re going to make a VR gallery app that allows users to view the sculptures more closely (moving them around, viewing from different angles, etc) and even reshaping or twisting the sculptures. We aim to create an experience similar to (and better than) visiting the sculpture gallery in the real world.

We also researched existing VR apps focusing on art exhibitions. We have found various platforms that provide immersive 360-degree environments to mimic a gallery experience but the art pieces themselves are 2D (e.g. photos, paintings). We do not aim to provide a realistic 3D gallery. Rather, we focus on letting users interact with a 3D sculpture. See our project pitch for more details.

Blockers

We don’t have any major blockers for now, but we’re hoping to get our sculpture gallery app idea reviewed by the course staff and maybe have a conversation with Professor Timea Tihanyi.
