Snippet 6
Weekly Summary
This week, we primarily focused on getting feedback from Timea and working on implementing localized gravity on our objects. We met with Timea in the lab so that she could test our project, which she really enjoyed. She gave us specific features that she would like or expect us to add to the project, such as the ability to stretch and pull the ceramic object. Additionally, we worked on localized gravity so that when a specific portion of the object is indented the piece above it will fall with a gravitaitonal effect. We don’t quite have this working yet, as we can’t stop the object from falling once it starts, but we believe we are close to getting it to work. We also started brainstorming what we hope the final project to look like from a user experience standpoint, which is something we haven’t really discussed until this point.
Team Member Contributions
Zoe: Implemented and refined the localized gravity functionality
Joanie: Wrote snippet 6, as well as brainstormed ideas for what the user experience will look like in our final project. Contributed to understanding the bugs we are experiencing with implementing gravity
Emi: Researched methods for adding localized gravity, as well as created a to-do list for what else we need to complete in order to finish our target project by the end of the quarter.
Madrona: Brainstormed ideas for what the user experience will look like in our final project. Contributed to understanding the bugs we are experiencing with implementing gravity
New Features
- We have added a first draft of implementing localized gravity on our ceramic object
- We have generated a TODO list for the rest of the quarter for what needs to be finished to meet our goals for our target project

Blocking Issues
- We aren’t sure how to stop the vertices from falling once they start. We are looking into how to remove the downward force on the object once it reaches a certain point, but aren’t quite sure what that is yet.
- We need to look more into how different hand gestures can lead to different behaviors within the Oculus. Our hope is to have one gesture lead to pushing in on the object and one gesture lead to pulling it outward, but need to look into this more as to how to implement it.
