Meet the team

We are Team 6 of the Spring 2020 University of Washington VR Capstone course.

Students of the Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering who are passionate about virtual reality and the experiences that can be created.

James Morren

jmorren@uw.edu

James is a senior studying Computer Science at the University of Washington. Having an interest the reciprocal nature of how technological implementation affects change in our society and how societal change affects the further development of technology, Virtual Reality and Extended Reality development is a new frontier of human experience that will change socitey. Developing for VR and XR is a fascinating opportunity to become involved with this cycle and explore the ideas of changing computing interfaces to revolve around the user rather than the user around computing interfaces.

Patrick Mao

pmao@uw.edu

Patrick is a senior studying Computer Science at the University of Washington. He is interested in the intersection between computer science and art, which led him to explore the world of virtual reality.

Abhinav Singh

abhiwan@uw.edu

Abhinav is a senior studying Computer Engineering at the University of Washington. He has a passion for technology, but has only been able to experience VR in a demo capacity. Being able to develop for VR has been a novel and fun opportunity to dive deeply into the cutting edge of new digital interfaces.

Julian Gallegos

julianga@uw.edu

Julian is a senior studying Computer Science at the University of Washington. I began studying computer science through my interest in understanding the inner workings of computers from a software perspective, and have since expanded that interest towards many other fields in computer science, like computer vision and AI. All these interests stemming from the desire to understand and work on relevant projects from the ground up. I have no game development experience, and only limited experience with using VR, so having this opportunity to develop for VR has made for a challenging and insightful experience, and has opened a new horizon of projects for me.

The Story Behind.

This project is for the UW CSE Capstone course in virtual and augmented reality. Given the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus that hit the world in 2020, we wanted to create an experience where people could get together in VR, and relax together. We picked sailing because of our shared interest in the great outdoors and drew inspiration from the Puget Sound. Throughout the 10 weeks of Spring quarter, we each worked from home, staying connected through Slack and many many Zoom calls. You can read each week of our progress in the posts on this website, and learn more about the course on the course webpage!
